Childhood Dreams

My childhood dream was to become a radio personality. I loved the idea of sharing my passions with others. Connecting with diverse people who have diverse viewpoints. Having a sense of community that I am tied to. This all stemmed from meeting various radio personalities when I was younger in Marin County. From there the dream kind of took hold. I started to do podcasts, write blogs about politics, and eventually became an on air personality for Artists On Demand.
Even though the dream changed over the years to a non-profit worker and then eventually to a teacher. The things I desired never changed. Everyday I get to connect with diverse students who teach me just as much as I teach them. I get to share my passions with them and in return I get to see theirs. I have a built in community with my school and the surrounding area.
The thing about childhood dreams is that they might not come out exactly how you thought they would, but if you listen to the true intentions of what you wanted then eventually you will get exactly what you needed.

The Limitations of Music Snobbery

Millennials are beginning to fall into the older person pattern of claiming musical superiority over the younger generations. I am here to throw some things at you to think about before we get entrenched into this thinking. Music is many things to people it feels a bit wrong to write off any genre or generation of music. I think before I get to my main point we need to explore how important music is to people. Music, along with any type of art, is a place for people to feel understood. People are drawn to music that showcases how they feel or represents their worldview in many ways. It is a place to escape, to have a voice, to connect, to reflect, and to display the psychology of the people living today. Music, if we think about it, is really power and history. Habits

  “We are what we repeatedly do. Greatness then, is not an act, but a habit” ―  Will Durant This quote was a mantra of sorts for me starting in 2018. I created many routines for myself and from those routines I was able to accomplish a lot personally and professionally. The pandemic has thrown a massive wrench into those habits and since then the feeling of being 'on track' has not existed. Routines, regardless if they are enjoyable, are a foundation of our mental health.  The best example of a routine that I had no idea mattered to me so much until the world stop was listening to music for my 30 minute commute to work. Missing my morning workout at the gym was a big thing that changed and my mind focused on that. Then I realized I was super grouchy in the mornings then it dawned on that I was missing that block of time where I would just listen to music to transition into or out of work. So I now make it a habit to listen to music on my stereo before work to get me pumped up.
